Content creation Thomson boosts performance and capacity of REV PRO Media Two new types of media are now available for the REV PRO removable hard disk drive as incorporated into the Infinity digital media camcorder. The REV PRO XP (for extra performance) has very high sustained speeds to and from the disk (including transferring DV25 material at almost ten times real time); and the REV PRO ER (for extended recording) has a capacity of more than 90 minutes of 75 Mb/s HD. Thomson expands Infinity product line with additional recording media Thomson is launching the Infinity DMC 1000/20, a new version of the digital media camcorder which takes advantage of the two new versions of the REV PRO removable disk drive: XP and ER. New enhancements to Thomson Grass Valley HD production switchers New versions of both the Kalypso and Kayak video production switcher lines are being demonstrated. Enhancements include seamless up, down and cross-conversion for multi-format production and delivery, and new visual effects.

Thomson and FilmLight to showcase software grading control for Spirit family In a demonstration marking the first time that a software-based color corrector will fully control a telecine, a Thomson Grass Valley Spirit 4K scanner will be driven from a FilmLight Baselight HD at NAB. The collaboration, likely to have an impact in high-end commercials, allows a Spirit to become a fully integrated part of a nonlinear post production environment using FilmLight processing and workflow tools.

CCTV ready to capture 2008 Olympics with Thomson Grass Valley Infinity camcorder China Central Television has purchased 15 Infinity digital media camcorders for its news production department in Beijing, where they will be used as part of the Olympic Games coverage. CCTV has also invested in EDIUS nonlinear editors which will be used alongside the Infinity camcorders, cutting content direct from the REV PRO drives.

WTTW, Chicago’s primary PBC affiliate, migrates to HD production with Thomson WTTW has upgraded its standard definition Thomson digital news production system to HD in a $1 million order. The new system, expected to go live this summer, features an HD SAN based on Thomson Grass Valley K2 media servers and multiple Aurora HD editors.

KHQ Spokane to produce local HD news with Thomson file-based platform The NBC affiliate in Spokane, Washington, will soon to move to HD news production, using a Thomson Grass Valley Aurora digital news production system. The KHQ installation includes central storage of 6TB on a K2 media server, laptop, desktop and craft editing, and AVC-Intra connectivity to handle footage acquired with Panasonic P2 cameras.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation moves forward with nationwide digital newsroom from Thomson Following a very successful pilot project in Melbourne, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation is moving forward with the progressive rollout of a fully integrated digital newsroom across all current Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) news sites in Australia. The newsroom is based on the Thomson Grass Valley Aurora digital newsroom and K2 media server, and Thomson is providing systems integration, project management, training and support.

Thomson builds new HD facilities for France 2 Leading broadcaster France 2 has appointed Thomson as systems integrator on its project to build a new HD studio and control room in Paris. The station’s new >HD channel, the result of a $3.1 million upgrade, will be on air by August this year.

Sure Shot builds second HD truck with Thomson Grass Valley equipment Sure Shot Transmissions, one of the fastest growing mobile production and satellite uplink companies in the Midwest USA, is building a new HD multiformat sports and entertainment truck. Equipping the truck will be Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8000 cameras, a Kalypso HD 4 M/E production switcher and a Concerto multi-level router.

Prisma selects Thomson Grass Valley to supply three new HD trucks Prisma Outside Broadcast, Scandinavia’s largest live production company based in Gothenburg, Sweden, has ordered two new HD production trucks, with a complete HD upgrade to a third existing trucks. The order, worth over 18 million euros, includes LDK series cameras, Kayak production switchers and K2 media servers. The upgrade project was completed in less than a month, and the two new units will be used at the Olympics in Beijing.

German production company Media Mobil selects Thomson to build state of the art HD OB unit Leading sports and entertainment production company Media Mobil has ordered a 26 camera outside broadcast truck from Thomson. The order includes Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8000 cameras and two Kayak production switchers.
